The Voluntary Service Caregiver Support Program at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center is seeking volunteer caregivers.
The volunteer will visit the homebound veterans once or twice a week for a few hours, providing companionship and compassionate support while allowing the veteran’s primary caregiver to take time off to complete necessary errands or just enjoy a period of rest and relaxation. The volunteer can play games, work on craft projects, listen to music, read aloud, watch movies or many other activities depending on the veteran’s condition.
The program’s ultimate goal is to provide veterans a high quality of life by allowing them to stay at home with their family as long as possible. In doing this, everyone involved gets so much more out of the program.
Interested volunteers must be 18 years of age and will need to complete caregiver support training. If you are interested please contact Kellen Palmer, Voluntary Service Caregiver Support Program Coordinator, at 918-577-3236 or via email at Kellen.Palmer@va.gov.
