A school bus driver in Muskogee is now suspended without pay, according to Muskogee Public Schools.
FOX23 learned Muskogee Campus Police officers are investigating allegations that the driver
grabbed an 8-year-old by the collar and threw him to the floor on the bus after school this week.
FOX23’s Price McKeon talked exclusively with the family of the 8-year-old on Thursday.
The family didn't want us to use the 8-year-old's name because they are too upset and scared after Wednesday.
The family told FOX23 it all started when the bus driver thought the 8-year-old threw a soda on the bus, but the family said he didn't do anything and surveillance video shows that.
A relative of the 8-year-old, Hannah Cones, said, “He walks in the door and he was really shaken up and was like ‘I have something really bad to tell you that happened today.’”
Cones said she didn't know how bad it was at first until he told her this, “And he came and he took me by the shirt of my collar and threw me down where my feet go in the aisle.”
She said she called the school immediately, and campus police came out to talk with the family Wednesday night.
She told McKeon, “To me it’s almost like a form of bullying but also abuse.”
FOX23 confirmed with Wendy Burton, a spokesperson with Muskogee Public Schools, the bus driver is suspended without pay while Campus Police investigate.
Campus Police Chief Dan Hall said, “And we want to have the heart for the parent and say this is what we're doing and we take it really seriously when an allegation comes forward.”
Hall told FOX23 they have surveillance video from the bus and they are interviewing other kids who were on the bus.
Cones said, “Like how could something like this happen?”
Cones said parents should trust the bus driver, but now the 8-year-old won’t even ride the bus home after Wednesday.
She said, “What if this happened to someone else? What if it was worse next time?”
FOX23 learned from Muskogee Public Schools the bus driver will be suspended without pay until the investigation is complete.
