The Mighty Sound of Seven were asked to perform two songs; 'The Star Spangled Banner' and their debut song, 'A Mighty Sound.'
The group was formed by a Broken Arrow couple, Dave and Janie Hail, in 2009.
The tenor of the group, Phil Armstrong, has lived in Tulsa for 15 years and said he is honored to get to perform on that kind of a platform.
“We have an opportunity to stand on a stage in front of the world and declare through the Star Spangled Banner, how proud we are are to be Americans,” Armstrong said.
Other members of the ensemble include Amick Byram, Charlie Harris, Frank Hernandez, John Cavazos, Kelly Ford, & Van Dobbins III.
The men reside in different states across the country and typically only rehearse together before a big event. Ford and Armstrong both reside in Tulsa.
Although the group will perform at a political event, Armstrong said that they will not let politics cloud the purpose of their performance.
“It not about the red or the blue, it’s about being an American,” said Armstrong.
The group will perform on Thursday evening of the convention.
The music ensemble has recorded two cds entitled SEVEN and What a Mighty Sound.
