The Osage County sheriff told FOX23 he is working to have Robert Connor III sent back to Oklahoma.

Meantime, the trailer Connor's mother once lived in now sits locked and empty.

Melba Fielden has lived in this area for nearly 40 years. She and her husband love the peace and quiet, but Tuesday evening that all changed.

"We got out of the car and we heard screaming and dogs barking and it sounded like someone was arguing," she said.

A short time later two highway patrolmen came over and warned her it wasn't safe to be outside. Fearing for her life, she told her husband she wanted to go into town and stay at a hotel.

Fielden says she's known Debi Connor for more than a year, and can't believe her friend is gone.

"Debi was such a good person, you know, and I don't understand it," she said.

Fielden said she would often see Debi's son Robert bring over her grandchildren, but lately they had been staying with her full time.

If Connor does not fight extradition, then the sheriff's office will have 10 days to go and get him.

However, if he refuses to be brought back to Oklahoma, then the governors of both states may have to get involved and Gov. Mary Fallin could request he be brought back to Oklahoma to face possible charges here.

In the meantime, a quiet neighborhood is left completely shattered and wondering how something like this could happen.

"One minute, it's peaceful and beautiful weather, and the next minute, someone gets killed right next door," said Fielden.
