Marched out in the wee hours of the morning in handcuffs, and underwear a couple is now locked up. They’re accused of making meth inside a Tulsa Inn and Suites Motel room.
But unless you were evacuated, for safety reasons, you'd never know it happened.
"They’re not required to notify you before you rent a room that there's been a meth lab in the room," said Sergeant, Bob Darby.
Which could put you in direct contact with deadly chemicals. FOX23’s Frank Wiley asked the owners about the incident, they never said they'd tell renters what happened. However, they did say the room is off limits-- at least for a month, until they clean up. They even said there's a sign near the door to prove it. But when Wiley looked closer, all I found was a do not disturb reminder. The actual warning sing was in the trash.
"They must disclose any defects," said Ron Sumner.
Sumner works with Coldwell Banker; he says the rules differ for home purchases, making it safer for buyers. If, everyone does what they're supposed to.
"If we know it and the seller doesn't disclose it, we have to," said Sumner.
But if the realtor doesn't know, because the seller didn't mention a meth lab was in operation your walls could be filled with chemicals. Darby says, nowadays, from what he's seen, meth makers would rather cook outside their home.
"People are starting to frequent hotels or motels," said Darby.
If you suspect a meth lab in operation near you, authorities urge you to call the meth hotline. That number, 592-METH.
