Okay Schools will not have class on Monday, February 4th due viral meningitis.
Interim Superintendent David Harlow says he was alerted on Sunday afternoon that a school employee had viral meningitis.
“In this case we wanted to do as much as we could as quickly as we could,” said Harlow.
Harlow told FOX23 school cleaning crews are already disinfecting the school building and professional cleaning crews will arrive on Monday.
“We thought that this was most important to do for the safety of the students,” said Harlow.
Approximately 500 K-12th grade students attend Okay Public Schools.
Viral Meningitis is caused by an infection of the meninges
according to CDC. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, and vision trouble. Patients tend to recover quickly.
Mr. Harlow says that the school anticipates to resume classes on Tuesday but he will evaluate the situation after the building is disinfected.
“Our job is to provide a safe environment at the school and to take care of the students,” said Harlow.
