Students at continuous learning schools in Tulsa went back to school Thursday morning.

FOX23 was at Mark Twain Elementary as parents dropped off their kids for the first day of school and were met with increased security.

One mom told FOX23 she was surprised, but grateful for the added precautions.

“l didn't think the door would be locked on the first day, but I still had to be let in. A lot of people were complaining cause it was locked but it makes you feel comfortable your kids are safe and they can't get in passed that front door,” she said.

The rest of Tulsa Public Schools will be back in class August 22nd.
