The new Superman movie is under fire for a scene where a character tells people to take shelter in an underpass as a tornado approaches.
In the film Clark Kent’s father, played by Kevin Costner, repeatedly urges his family and other motorists to go to the highway underpass for safety during tornadic storms. That’s the opposite of what the National Weather Service recommends people do to stay safe.
The NWS advises people to get out of the tornado's path or seek shelter in a sturdy, well-constructed building.
Warner Bros. released a statement the movie "is a work of fiction and events depicted in the movie are not intended, nor should they be seen, to offer any emergency preparedness advice.”
