Man first on the scene of a deadly car accident stepped in to help victims
An Oklahoma man was killed and a 12-year-old child was critically injured in a car crash in Wagoner County.
The Department of Public Safety said that 43-year-old Anthony Drahos was pronounced dead at the scene late Friday after his van left a roadway and rolled.
OHP said that the accident happened near 71st and 385th East Avenue.
Eddie Herndon lives in the area near the accident and told FOX23 that he was one of the first on the scene when he heard the crash outside his house on 71st Street.
"It's something you don't want to have to see," said Herndon.
Herndon said that he and another man jumped into action and called the authorities.
"Both of us got on the phone at the same time and started making calls to 911 and to the sheriff's office," said Herndon.
Officials didn't release the name of the juvenile, who was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa in critical condition. The report says the youth had head and arm injuries.
The crash report said investigators were still trying to determine whether seat belts were in use.
Herndon told FOX23 that while the past 24 hours have been difficult, he says his heart goes out to all who were involved.
"I hope that the young man is alright and my condolences go out to the family," said Herndon.
