Children, in diapers, found alone in the street, in the middle of the night.

Just after midnight last Thursday, a 20-year old Tulsa man, driving south on Sheridan just before east 25th Place saw a dog standing in the middle of the road.

"I slam on my brakes, I come to a screaming halt ... there's an infant child in a diaper, not wearing any other clothes, just sitting in the middle of the road. So, I pull my car over into the oncoming lanes, to make sure no other cars would hit him," said Chase, he did not want to give out his last name.

The pit bull was circling the boy; Chase said he was guarding him. He said the dog snarled at him and bit his leg, but didn't seriously hurt him.

"I notice there's another kid, a girl that's probably about 18 months old," he said.

The boy in the diaper wasn't alone. Chase spotted what he thinks is the toddler's little sister, across the street on the sidewalk. She was also just wearing a diaper.

Chase called 911. FOX23 called Tulsa police, and emailed for a copy of the 911 call, but they denied the request.

Police confirmed the call was made and said they found the kids, an 18-month-old and a 2-and-a-half-year-old, in the 6500 block of East 25th Place.

That morning, officers took the kids to the shelter.

"I just hope they're in a better home, because wherever they are, they just weren't being parented like they should've been," said Chase.

FOX23 checked with Tulsa police, they said the case is still open, so they are still investigating.

"They're really great kids, it's just a bad situation," said Chase.

Chase said he doesn't think the kids traveled too far, they likely came from a neighborhood near 25th and Sheridan.

FOX23 called DHS to find out where those kids are now and the agency said it's a violation of state law to comment on the status of a case. It's not clear if the children are still in the shelter, or if their parents were found. It's also still not clear what charges those parents might face.

well thank goodness the parents had the good sense to have the pit bull baby sit... some people should be taken out of the gene pool. there is no excuse.

Glad the children are ok. Thank goodness for a good citizen like Chase. Hot summer days are leading people to take advantage of the cool summer nights to help reduce their energy bills. A lot of cool summer night air with the help of a fan :-) I wonder if that was their dog!!!
