Oklahoma Highway Patrol and The Army Corps of Engineers said a 32-year-old man jumped off cliffs at Skiatook Lake and drowned.
It happened on Sunday afternoon. The Skiatook Fire Department told FOX23 News the man was reported missing around 3:45 p.m. The Army Corps said his body was found by OHP's sonar system around 5:30 p.m. and he was taken away on the Corps' boat.
A family who was there when the drowning happened said the victim's stepsister was upset and they comforted her until his body was found.
"We stood in a circle with her and prayed with her that they would find him," said Julie Robinson. "I believe in the power of prayer and our prayer was answered."
Robinson and other lakegoers said people jump and dive off the same cliffs often. There are signs posted that say no jumping or diving. However, FOX23 News even watched a few men jumping in after warning them about the earlier drowning and the low water levels.
The Corps said the water level is six feet lower than normal. Last year it was 12 feet lower. The officer also said the drop is about 40 feet to the lake water from the cliff.
