There’s new information regarding a local man accused of sexually abusing children and claiming to be a youth minister.

Rogers County authorities say there could be even more victims.  Joe Cheater Jr. was arrested on Friday.  He’s charged with seven counts of lewd molestation and four counts of 1st degree rape.

The allegations date back to 2005.  The ages of the victims range from 9 to 14.

Author Sharon Doty is an expert on child sex predators.  She says parents must be proactive when talking to their children about child sex abusers.

"You talk to them about don't touch a hot stove and you talk with them about don't run with scissors. You need to talk to them about their private parts too and that they're private,” says Doty.

She says parents need to keep these things in mind. Predators will typically try and meet with children alone.  This should always concern you.  Also, you should always be conscious of people who give your child gifts without permission.

"It could be a pair of sneakers, it could be a backpack. It could be a gift that the child wants that the parent has either said no to or perhaps can't afford to purchase,” says Doty.

She says above all, parents must not be afraid or embarrassed to talk to their children.

Mom, Brooke Marble, says she just wished there was an easier way.  “That's one of those things you wish you had a handbook on like what do I talk to my kids or how do I approach them with it,” says Marble.

If you would like more information on how to talk with your children, Doty wrote a book called, Evil in Our Midst.  It’s a guide for parents on how to protect your children and it’s available on

The Rogers County Sheriff’s office says the alleged molestation happened while Cheater lived in the now closed Lake Valley Mobile Home Park in Catoosa.
