Tulsa Police say as students were getting off the bus at Woodrow and North Harvard Avenue Friday afternoon, a man with a metal pipe pried open the school bus doors and got on the bus.
When inside, officers say Curtis Monroe started attacking students.
Tulsa mom Nicole Lockett was almost speechless.
“Children being attacked, innocent kids being attacked, my daughters could have been hurt,” she said.
Police say Curtis Monroe got a call from a child on the bus that had left McLain Junior High Friday afternoon telling him about a fight on the bus. When the bus stopped, Monroe was waiting to confront the students.
“As soon as the bus driver opens the door it was about two three people who came on the bus with sticks, knives,” Lockett’s daughter Roshay told FOX23.
What Monroe had wasn't a stick; it was something much more dangerous.
“It was a tall metal pipe and they were beating down this boy with it,” Roshay later explained.
Police say Monroe also had a knife and tried to stab several children.
“A pipe and a knife, that's ridiculous,” Lockett said.
For Roshay and Rayunna, it was like nothing they'd ever seen.
“I was getting all squished and stuff, people was all backing up into my face and stuff,” Rayunna said.
“The kids were trying to move out of the way. They would jump out the back of the bus exit just to get out, cause you know (it was) terrifying,” Roshay said.
When their mom heard the story she was more than concerned.
“I was terrified, terrified, there was nothing I could do but call the Board of Education.”
“I am really insecure about riding the bus now,” Roshay told FOX23.
Some parents vow never to let their kids ride this bus again, but Nicole can't do that.
“I am a working mom, and I can't drive them far, I need the bus.”
FOX23 contacted Tulsa Public Schools several times for comment, but our calls and e-mails have not been returned. In the past, the district has placed a supervisor at stops where there have been altercations or violence.
FOX23 did not see one at that stop on Monday when the bus dropped off the students.
