A group of teenagers – armed and on the loose. They shot a Tulsa man in the head and fired at a possible witness. The shots rang out in the 1600 block of East Virgin Street just before six at the Seminole Hills apartment complex. FOX 23's Douglas Clark has details.
Residents say this neighborhood is no stranger to violent crime. Some even said they were not surprised by what they saw.
Neighbors say it sounded like firecrackers. But the dinner-time booms were the sounds of bullets. Police suspect five teenagers opened fire on a man as he was getting out of his car with his wife and baby. He was hit in the head. The other two were not hurt. Police say the suspects, armed with semi-automatic weapons, then ran west and were spotted by a man in his truck.
“He saw them and they saw him. They shot at him but he was ok,” says Tulsa Sgt. Virgil Litterell.
The frightening scene played out as a baseball game was going on right across the street. It’s a scene neighbors say is all too common in this part of town.
“I'm used to it by now,” says 15-year-old Taylor King. “One of my friends was stabbed, another was shot in the head.”
Police are looking for five black males between the ages of 14 and 18. If you have any information, you’re urged to call Crimestoppers: 596-COPS.
The Seminole Hills apartment complex is right across the street from the Kipp Academy, where an event was scheduled. No students were hurt.
