Summer school in Tulsa is getting a make over.
Tulsa Public Schools is teaming up with Teach for America to turn the TPS summer school program into a TFA Summer Institute site.
The program is offered by TPS in partnership with TFA, Community Action Project and The University of Tulsa. TPS says the program will provide a comprehensive academic program for over 3,000 children in Tulsa.
The free summer school will serve TPS children entering grades 1-12 in the 2012-13 school year, with nine different schools serving as host sites for the 2012 Teach For America Summer Institute.
For children in grades 1-6 the program will focus on meeting common core standards in mathematics and reading. Elementary host sites are Hamilton, Hawthorne, Lewis & Clark, McClure, Robertson and Skelly.
Students entering grades 7-9 may take free credit recovery courses in math or language arts. Incoming students in grades 10-12 may take free credit recovery in English I, English II, Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology, and Geometry. School sites for incoming students in grades 7-12 include Hale, McLain and Will Rogers College High Schools.
Parents and students may pick up an application in person at school or at the Education Service Center at 3027 S. New Haven Ave., or
online.
