The Metropolitan Environmental Trust will be collecting old or unused Christmas strand lights for recycling.
People can take lights to the M.e.t. central Tulsa location at 3495 S. Sheridan Road. The M.e.t. is able to provide this service because this center also collects electronic waste. Throughout December, this M.e.t. Center will accept all varieties of strands of lights. All will be separated into individual parts to be properly recycled.
“Everyone goes through the issue of what to do with a strand of old Christmas lights,” explains Michael Patton, The M.e.t.’s Executive Director. “Many Tulsans are putting up lights this time of year and find that their old strands of lights don’t work anymore. Now we have an option to recycle them.”
Strands of lights contain lead in order to absorb heat, lead is a hazardous toxin and needs to be properly handled. After touching and handling strands of lights, make sure to wash your hands. The toxins can be ingested after hand to mouth contact and could be dangerous.
