Bartlesville Police say Andrew Davis was in clown make-up when they arrested him early Wednesday morning. Now they're trying to piece together the rest of the story. Why was he wearing make up, and why did he hit a pedestrian and drag him 100 feet. That victim is now recovering after being treated at Jane Phillips Medical Center.
Make no mistake, plain face or painted face, police in Bartlesville don't take kindly to hit and runs.
“This is a serious crime that could have lead to a death easily,” Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland told FOX23.
Now, Chief Tom Holland is dealing with an unexpected onslaught.
“I've had a ton of calls from media, not just Bartlesville media, and just Tulsa or regional, we've had calls from Chicago and New York.”
Every one wants a piece of this bozo.
“There's been a lot of national attention from the thing,” Holland said.
20 year-old Andrew Davis' mug, the top story on the smoking gun.
One father said he still can't believe what police say Davis did: swerved to hit a 47 year-old man, dragged him 100 feet, and all while witnesses say he laughed behind the wheel of his Plymouth Neon.
“It is a shame that somebody of that nature would come through and do that, cause Bartlesville is a good little town to live in. I've lived here since I was kid,” Wes Sutterfield said.
So why didn't police just wash off the make up, before Davis' jailhouse photo shoot?
“That’s really significant evidence for us, because we had two separate witnesses in the neighborhood who saw it and said the driver of the vehicle had face paint on,” Chief Holland said.
This now infamous mug shot may land Davis in the big house instead of under the big top.
“He wasn't hard to identify when we pulled his car over,” Holland said.
Intially, police thought Andrew Davis may be a member of the Juggalos.
Jeremy Dean-Wood says that should have been the first giveaway that Davis has no Juggalo affiliation.
“He just doesn't look right, his paints not right, it's messed up.” Dean-Wood said.
It’s not just his paint.
“A Juggalo would be more happy in the face he wouldn't be squinting at you even if he was socked, he would be more open eyed,” Dean-Wood said.
With pronounced redness around his eye, Davis may not be able to help that squint.
“We're not assuming he's a Juggalo, and the evidence at this time would indicate perhaps that he's not,” Chief Holland said.
Jeremy is insanely mad that this man is dragging the Juggalo name through the mud.
“Don't base your opinion on one happening, open your heart up and believe in the truth,” Dean-Wood said.
He says Davis' look just doesn't ring true.
“There's a possibility he's an impostor.”
Chief Holland's thinking the same thing.
“Maybe be (Davis is) a wannabe. We hear that term wannabe gang member. Maybe he's a wannabe Juggalo.”
