On Friday night, a large fire, that firefighters believe was sparked by vandals, destroyed a home in Sapulpa.

The fire took out an entire home near Southwest Boulevard and West 56th street.

Our FOX23 crew went to Sapulpa to talk with firefighters and find out what it took to get the fire out.

FOX23 has learned it took firefighters from Sapulpa and Tulsa to get the house fire under control.

They battled more than intense flames but also fought the extreme cold temperatures.

We spoke with one neighbor who said the house was bound to burn sooner or later because it has been vacant so long.

"It started in the little room back in the back," said neighbor Bill Couch.

He’s the man who called in the fire. He has lived across the street for 33years and he knows his neighborhood well.

He explained why this house was bound to burn, "It's been empty for 20 years," said Couch.

"We came in, and it was a vacant house, it's been vacant for about 20 years," said the Sapulpa fire Investigator on scene.

FOX23 also spoke with Sapulpa Fire Department, Capt. Derek Cragle, who said he leans towards a specific cause because of vacancy.

"Some homeless people coming around, but right now there's no signs of anybody inside the house," he said.

Couch said that wouldn't surprise him.

The neighborhood has become a haven for the homeless.

"We’re not sure if that's related or not, we just know from the neighbors there's been a lot of people walking around trying to stay warm basically," said Cragle.

Fire crews not only traversed the danger of an abandoned home but had to deal with freezing lines while getting the job done.

The other big danger with fires like this is the wind.

Luckily Friday night in Sapulpa, the fire was contained to just one home.

FOX23 also heard from residents in the neighborhood that the fire could have been started by kids playing with fire inside the house.

Whether it was kids or homeless people, it is believed the fire was caused by trespassers.

Stay with FOX23 as we bring you the exact cause of this fire, once the Sapulpa fire investigator has completed his investigation.
