FOX23's radio partner Newstalk KRMG claimed one of the highest honors in the radio industry, the Marconi award.

"It really is radio's equivalent of the Oscars or the Heisman. It's the highest award that we can get," said Dan Potter, KRMG host.

KRMG has won AP awards, Oklahoma Association of Broadcast awards and Edward R. Murrow awards, all great honors recognizing excellence.

But Potter said none of those were as big or meaningful as winning the 2013 Marconi award for medium market station of the year.

"Which is the equivalent of, in the Oscars, best picture…I mean, it's the best of the best," he said.

After working in radio in Dallas for two decades, Potter says KRMG is on par with stations in much bigger markets.

"I was news director at the station in Dallas. I had a staff that was smaller than the staff that covers news here at KRMG. Yeah, it says a lot about Tulsa about their thirst for news. Tulsans are very involved citizens,” he said.

This is the first time a radio station in Tulsa has won the award.
