FOX23 is happy to announce the two winners of our Junior Globetrotter Contest! The winning children are Gatlin Gunn and Garrett Lee. We asked parents to tell us how their kids are examples of "team players" in life, not just in sports.
Gatlin was chosen for the ways he has sacrificed and helped out since his family took in a homeless single mom with three kids. Gatiln's father wrote that Gatlin has "shared his room, toys, food, holidays (getting fewer presents, so they could also have gifts), and his family with this other family in need."
Garrett was chosen for the ways he has helped to care for his older brother, who has Cerebral palsy, since their father died four years ago. Garrett's mother told us of the first time Garrett helped his brother from the bathtub, carried him over his shoulder to their room, and got him dressed and into bed. She wrote that Garrett told her, "I got this. I'm gettin' bigger now, so I can help you." She wrote, "If that's not a team player, I don't know what is."
The winner selection committee at FOX23 was overwhelmed with the number of heart-warming, and sometimes heart-breaking stories that we received. Each and every one of the kids nominated are deserving of great things in life, and we wish them all the best. The committee had to pick just two kids who we felt were excellent examples of team players, and we felt that Gatlin and Garrett provided two of the best examples.
Gatlin and Garrett will attend the Harlem Globetrotters game at the BOK Center on February 8. They will both get to meet the players, and sit on the team bench. We hope they make lifetime memories, and are encouraged to continue to be "team players" for the rest of their lives.
