A Tulsa County judge has issued a temporary restraining order against a vendor that was offering teeth whitening at the Tulsa State Fair.
The judge sites "safety and welfare of citizens" in the restraining order document. The order was filed by the state board of Dentistry, which claims the vendor, called Euroshine USA, is unlicensed.
“It’s very scary because you don’t know what damage can or have incurred,” said Sharon Johnson.
“That’s the sad thing,” said Diane Busch.
Court documents say the vendor failed to ask appropriate questions to individuals seeking a teeth whitening treatment, such as known allergies, before performing the procedure with a chemical called "carbamide peroxide."
Investigators say the vendor was also putting fairgoers who received the treatment under an ultraviolet light, while fairgoers wore dental trays and sunglasses. The state board of Dentistry said the practices at the booth were unsanitary and against the law. The board said the sunglasses were not properly sanitized between customers, and there was no running water at the booth.
FOX23 reached the Director of the Oklahoma Board Susan Rogers of Dentistry Tuesday.
“What we were watching was someone that was doing procedures that are considered the practice of dentistry without a license,” she said.
Board investigators say they saw fairgoers who received the treatment given a plastic bag to spit in following the procedure and add the saliva was not properly disposed of.
FOX23 also called the company of Euroshine USA owner Ingo Van Styn. He denied the allegations.
“State the facts, that we not present ourselves as dentist. We don’t do any diagnostic. We don’t provide any treatments. The accusations are false,” he said.
But people enjoying the fair say this isn’t the place to go for teeth treatment.
“I think anyone who would have the procedure done here are kind of letting themselves in for a bit of a heartache, toothache,” said KC Crews.
“Use your head. not because it’s free. looks fun, a little different. you still need to use your head,” said Johnson.
The company is scheduled to be in court October 12th.
