OKEMAH, Okla. (AP) - A judge has ordered a man charged with killing three people, including two young girls near Weleetka, to be tried in Creek County for the death of his girlfriend.
District Judge Lawrence Parish handed down the order Tuesday for 27-year-old Kevin Sweat. Defense attorneys had asked to move the trial out of Okfuskee County because of intense publicity.
Sweat is to go to trial on June 10 for first-degree murder for the July 2011 death of 23-year-old Ashley Taylor. Parish says Sweat will be tried in Bristow, about 25 miles north of Okemah.
Sweat was in custody for Taylor's death when he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the 2008 shooting deaths of 13-year-old Taylor Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker.
He's pleaded not guilty to all charges.
