The juvenile records of a 14-year-old boy charged with first degree murder have been released. A juvenile court judge allowed the release of the records after a request from FOX23.
Investigators say Joshua Mooney confessed to shooting Mary Escue in Jenks in December. Escue was killed on December 18th while staying with her parents near 111th and Peoria. Court records show he was on court ordered probation when that crime allegedly happened.
Unsealed court records show Mooney had a few criminal incidents before deputies say he broke into a Jenks home and admitted to shooting Escue when she interrupted the burglary.
Records from 2011 show Mooney, 13 at the time and living with his grandmother, and another juvenile stabbed two pigs belonging to a Depew couple. Mooney paid a fine and did community service, and was put on probation for his role in the animal cruelty case.
Records also show Mooney was charged with assault and battery in February of 2012 when police say he and two other juveniles choked and punched a man in Tulsa.
In a court disposition written in May, a Juvenile Justice Specialist writes that, “Joshua does not have a lengthy history with juvenile system although it does seem that he has severe mental health issues at this time.”
That disposition goes on to say that in March of last year, Mooney was placed at Shadow Mountain Behavioral Health Hospital after over-dosing on a drug to treat nerve pain and bi-polar disorder. He was also diagnosed with ADHD and reportedly made suicidal threats.
The papers reveal Mooney had other issues at home. He ran away, stole his mom's car, and took money from her purse. After learning about that, the court requested increased contact with his court ordered counselor.
The court papers also say the court system repeatedly felt it was best to keep Mooney living at home with his mother and stepfather.
Court records also show that Mooney was placed at Shadow Mountain Behavioral Health Hospital after overdosing on a drug to treat nerve pain and bipolar disorder.
FOX23 contacted Mooney’s mother who had no comment but did say she is upset his criminal history is being released. Mooney is being held in the Tulsa County Jail. Deputies have questioned other teens in this case but no other arrests have been made.
Mooney is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on February, 14th.
