UPDATE: A Miami attorney tells us his client, Devon Martin is the inmate who committed suicide and Kyle Lee Sutton is the man who turned himself in. OSBI has not confirmed this.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office says one inmate is dead, one is in custody and two jailers are injured after an escape, pursuit and shooting around 6pm Wednesday.

Officials with the sheriff's office say during the escape the inmates overpowered and severely beat two jailers with a homemade club, and a third jailer was subdued and placed in handcuffs.

The inmates stole his key and escaped.  The pair then stole a jailer's vehicle and drove away.

A broadcast was put out and deputies from the Delaware County Sheriff Office and Jay Police Department saw the vehicle in Jay and a pursuit began.  During the pursuit the inmates fired shots at deputies, striking their vehicles.  Deputies returned fire,  striking the vehicle.

The vehicle turned onto a dirt road south of Jay in rural Delaware County where the pursuit ended.

One of the inmate surrendered without incident.

The other inmate was pronounced dead on scene from what appears to be a self inflicted gun shot wound.

The jailers where transported by Jay EMS to Grove Hospital where they were treated and flown to Joplin hospitals for further treatment.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was contacted along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) to assist in the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The inmates' names have not been released.  The Delaware Co. Undersheriff Robert Rowley told FOX23 late Wednesday that jailers do not carry guns in the jail and he says it is unclear where the gun came from.  He referred us to the OSBI for any further questions.  OSBI says one of the inmates involved had been arrested for homicide.

OSBI has also been seeking a suspect in a shooting earlier this month in Eucha, also in Delaware County.  A 27-year-old man from Jay was shot several times in the early morning hours of May 5th.  OSBI had said no arrests had been made.
