Senator Jim Inhofe welcomed the Romney-Ryan energy plan announced on Thursday in New Mexico.

"I am pleased to see that Governor Romney has unveiled a well-thought-out, comprehensive energy plan that will reduce red tape and allow us to exploit the wealth of resources that our nation possesses," Inhofe said. "We know that America has the largest endowment of oil, gas, and coal of any country in the world, yet we are the only nation that does not develop our own resources - this makes no sense.

"President Obama has been pretending to support an all-of-the-above approach to gain votes, yet he is aggressively working to end oil, gas and coal in this country. He rejected the Keystone pipeline, which would have created hundreds of thousands of jobs and been a huge step for energy security; he has greatly decreased oil and gas production on public lands and offshore; and his EPA is trying to regulate coal and natural gas out of existence through heavy-handed regulations. All of this is going on while he continues to pour billions in taxpayer dollars into failed green energy companies like Solyndra.

"Governor Romney's plan stands in stark contrast to the President's disastrous energy policies that have cost jobs, negatively impacted family budgets with higher energy costs, moved us further from energy security, and weakened our economy. For a better path, just look at Oklahoma. Because we develop our own resources Oklahoma has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country and it is currently number two in the nation for job creation.

"Governor Romney's plan empowers states to take the lead in developing energy sources. Because one-size-fits-all federal oversight - President Obama's approach - does not work. This is exactly why I introduced the FRESH Act to ensure states continue to lead in the responsible regulation of hydraulic fracturing and have been working on legislation for the past few months that would empower states in many of the ways Romney is proposing. I am pleased to see this as such a significant part of his energy plan.

"The United States is on the brink of an energy boom: we could once again be a world energy leader and achieve total North American independence from the Middle East if we could just stop President Obama's war on fossil fuels and affordable energy.

"President Obama's plan of energy austerity is destroying jobs, harming our economy and causing energy prices, as the President promised himself, to 'necessarily skyrocket.' Governor Romney's true all-of-the-above energy plan leads to millions more jobs, cheaper energy costs for every American, and puts us on the path to prosperity."
