U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe joined Sen. Mike Lee in introducing the Marriage and Religious Freedom Act on Thursday.

The legislation would protect institutions or individuals that define marriage as between one man and one woman from being denied any federal tax exemption, grant, contract, license, certification, or similar provisions as a result of this religious value.

"The United States has long been a beacon of light in the arena of liberty," said Inhofe. "When it comes to religious freedom, our founding fathers intentionally set out in the very first amendment to the U.S. Constitution to protect religious institutions from government. It is not the federal government's job to pressure people or private businesses to change policies or values that run counter to their moral beliefs. This is why I've joined forces with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure those who hold the religious conviction that marriage is between a man and a woman is protected from any possible future retaliation from the federal government for this moral value."

Thank God someone cares enough to support the many of us that want the sacrament of marriage to stay as such. A man and a woman. As for the mean-spirited comments above - typical liberal, always insults and personal attacks. Exactly what is wrong with our country, anyone who disagrees is dumb or racist. Amazing how intolerant liberals are of Christians, its as if the 80% of Christians don't matter and the voice of the less that 1% atheists and 1-7% gays are the only voice.
