Increased interest in Tulsa's Neighborhood Alert program

Apartment complexes in the 61st & Peoria area are focusing on how to cut back on crime in the neighborhood. Tulsa's Crime Prevention Network, which monitors the Alert Neighbor program, has been contacted by many apartment complex managers interested in the Alert Neighbor program.
 
This comes after four woman were found murdered inside a Fairmont Terrace Apartment near 61st & Peoria. The Crime Prevention Network's Executive Director, Carol Bush, said for years the CPN has been working to get the community involved and unfortunately it takes a tragedy like this to make a big difference.
 
The first meeting is happening at the St. Thomas Square Apartments on Monday at 4 pm.  Apartment managers,residents and security guards will all be at the meeting. Bush said they are really hoping to get feedback from residents about how to reduce crime.
 
Bush has been working with CPN for 8 years. She said two things consistently work to reduce crime in an area. The first is when neighbors keep an eye out for each other. The second is when neighbors report suspicious activity to police, which can be done anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (918) 596-2677.
