I have to agree with Laydensmommee. As tragic as it is -- as any loss of life, especially a child's -- is.... Ultimately, ice did NOT kill this child. The negligence on the driver's part did. Whether it was ice, rain, sun in the driver's eyes, or a second driver which caused the accident, the child was ejected from the car and killed because he was not strapped in. Had he been strapped in, it sounds likely that he would NOT have sustained very serious injuries, as no one else in the van did. To blame the ice is either a poor headline or an excuse to absolve the responsible party of any, well, responsibility. My heart goes out to his family, and I truly am saddened and sorry for the loss of this little boy. However, blame (and any potential charges) should rest on the driver, not the ice. This was a glaring lack of concern for a child's safety and well being, no matter the excuses being given.

Laydensmummy :-/ I hear ya. But all I can really say is condolences to friends and family. I'm sure that they are already emotionally crushed by the latest events in their lives. RIP little guy.

Ice may be the cause of the wreck but the child not being properly buckled in by an adult is the cause of his death. How can someone tempt to drive in this weather without making sure everyone is safe in the car. I have a five year old son as well and there is never ever a reason for a child to be unbuckled in a moving vehicle. I'm not going to be tacky and call anyone names or make assumptions but at the end of it all a simple seat belt could have saved that poor boys life. So sad how ignorance is the cause of so many tragedies!
