Tulsa County deputies and detectives are searching for human remains in West Tulsa, near South 49th West Avenue and West 12th Street.
Around 1:00 on Sunday afternoon, two hikers who live in the Arkansas River area in Tulsa found a human skull with a hole in it and called Tulsa police. Police confirmed it was a human skull and called Tulsa County to investigate the area.
"There are bones scattered throughout this area," said Sgt. Travis Jones. "The brush is thick and there are dead tree limbs and leaves everywhere so it's hard right now for us to dig up skeletal remains."
Detectives were unable to determine if the skull was from a man or woman.
"The remains are so bleached out that they might have been there over a year," said Sgt. Jones.
Detectives searched all day but stopped when it got too dark. They will continue to look for the rest of the remains on Monday morning.
