It has taken time, and plenty of leg work for Charlene Mann’s roof to get repaired. Knocks went unanswered when FOX23’s Frank Wiley approached Mann’s rental company, Habitat 4 Hope.
A couple days later, he went back, and didn't get much further. Even her four grandkids knew something was wrong.
"My grandson said 'Me-Me, why do we have to be so poor,” said Mann.
Mann said "Habitat 4 Hope" promised to repair her roof. She says they even sent a contractor out, but once that contractor found out he wasn't getting paid he left her with a dilapidated roof.
After Frank’s story aired Monday, Josh Davis got involved he donated tarp.
"You see people in need like that, you've got to help as much as you can," said Davis.
Then Brant Pitchford with Code Enforcement stepped in. Pitchford said the tarp wasn't the safest option.
After a conversation with Habitat 4 Hope workers Wednesday, a few things changed.
"This morning these guys showed up and said we are out here to do your roof, and I was so excited, I’ve been doing the happy dance all day and telling everyone on Facebook,” said Mann. “I’m just so excited."
Mann said she could never nail anyone with the company down for help, neither could we. She said she'll take the current work being done as her landlord's statement, for now.
"They finally stepped up and said they are going to do this, and they are doing it," said Mann.
However, her experience is just another story adding to the company's poor reputation.
