A week after Hillcrest Medical Center announced it was laying off 50 employees, FOX23 has learned the hospital is closing down its child development center for employees' children.

A spokeswoman for Hillcrest told FOX23 the roughly 40 Hillcrest employees who have children at the child development center were told they have 90 days to find another childcare facility before this one closes on Dec. 31.

In a written statement, the spokeswoman told FOX23 significant reductions in Medicare reimbursement and the lack of Medicaid expansion have placed significant financial pressures on hospitals, so Hillcrest is focusing more on core patient services and decided to shut down its child development center.

Officials said the roughly half dozen employees at the center are among the 50 administrative positions Hillcrest previously announced it was laying off.
