Owasso, Okla. - The cold temperatures have forced people to buy more firewood to heat their homes.

Todd Rickert owns Rickert Tree Service in Owasso. He told FOX23 that normally his firewood season begins in September, but with the colder temperatures, he's seen a big boost in business.

"With this winter normally we would tend to slow down with firewood to some degree, we might sell 20 ricks a week, where right now we could sell 20 ricks a day if we could get it cut up," said Rickert.

The demand is so big, he's having a hard time finding workers to do the extra labor and cutting needed.

"I think we probably had to send away six or eight people yesterday and to come back today when we could get ahead of it," Rickert said.

Another problem he's having is his normal wood-splitter is broken, so he's having to rely on other machines to do the job.

"We're only able to make between five and 10 ricks a day temporarily until our new engine gets in our machine," said Rickert.

FOX23 found John and Kimberly Grim stocking their trailer full of firewood ahead of the next few frigid days.

"We're getting a rick and it will last a couple of weeks probably," said John.
