The Red Cross says blood donations are at the lowest level in 15 years.

Officials say they expect to get 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June. They say summer is typically a slow time for donations, but the need in some areas is getting critical.

Because of the low blood donations in Oklahoma three OU Heisman trophy winners are teaming up with the Red Cross in hopes of boosting donor turn out.
Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White are part of the “Heismans to the Rescue” campaign.

Anyone who donates blood through September 30th will get a “Heismans to the Rescue” t-shirt and will be entered to win a signed football.

The Heisman winners will also be at the Red Cross at 11th and 169 on Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m.
