Children in North Tulsa are being offered an opportunity to take control of their life before it’s too late.
About 150 kids take part in Jennifer Patterson’s gymnastics program. Her goal is to teach them life lessons through drills, tumbles and encouragement.
Patterson calls the program Aim High Academy. It’s been around since 2007. She has built her resume on counseling, but she was once a gymnast. Four years ago, she decided to marry the two. Her goal is to stop teen pregnancy. She chose to focus on North Tulsa, as many teens have already dealt with pregnancy.
"Its nearly one in every four girls, they're looking at that for their future,” said Patterson.
Aim High Academy is a non-profit organization. Patterson assembled a team of instructors who also instill positive feedback. While Patterson says most courses cost about $60 per month, she wants to make it affordable. She charges about $20 per month.
"I’ve seen kids that were already on such destructive patterns of behavior in their lives," said Patterson.
