If the government remains shut down, in the coming days future funding for the Women, Infants, and Children program could be up in the air.

This is adding undue stress on hundreds of families in Tulsa.

Jessica Kosko cradles her 1-year-old son Jacory in her arms.

This little guy knows that when his mother comes here to WIC, he will get the milk, eggs and other nutritious foods that he needs. But today is different.

"No one told me about the WIC shutting down. I really didn't have any idea about that until today," said Kosko.

Like many other moms just now hearing the news, Kosko is trying to wrap her head around the fact that she may not be able to feed her young children the types of food she would like.

Depending on what the government does, WIC will no longer be issuing food vouchers after Nov. 1.

"It's a big shock. I'm still thinking about it and Nov. 1, I just didn't know it was going to be so soon," said Kosko.

WIC provides things like formula, milk and food to thousands of families living in Oklahoma.

"Next week we've been advised that we will have to start printing only for high-risk clients," said Stacy Walker, WIC.

If she can no longer cash her WIC vouchers, Kosko says she will be forced to get a second job.

This will put an added strain on family members who already watch her four young children.

It's not just her family feeling the pinch.

"We are crossing our fingers and hoping this doesn't happen but potentially we will be at home furloughed like all the other government employees out there," said Walker.

Sometimes s*it just happens.I lost my job as a resturant manager while 4 months pregnant with twins. Lost my 45k annual salary and my health insurance. My fiance also lost his job that same month due to his place of employment closing. It is near impossible to find a job whilst pregnant-don't deny it, its true, there is no point training someone who's going to potentially be taking alot of time off and then maternity leave. I was lucky enough to land a job I am grossly overqualified for for about 25% of what I had been making. My fiance also got a minimum wage job after months of searching.we happen to live in one of the cities with the highest unemployment rate in the country.WIC has been a godsend for me.when you only have $50 to feed two people for a month and one of them is pregnant every little bit extra helps.not to mention the free parenting classes and breastfeeding classes they offer that we as first time parents need. I also had to turn to medi-cal since my insurance had cancelled. This is not how we planned having children would be, we were well off, hard working, tax paying Americans! But in this economy things can change in a blink of an eye. If wic, medi-cal and other social services weren't designed for family's like us temporarily down on our luck then why was i paying so much in taxes for so long? It needs to be funded because no child deserves to go hungry because of the circumstances of their parents- its not their fault. Human rights start at conception but shouldn't stop at birth.

LJohnson do you know how to keep your knees together? We know what causes kids. It's sex relations. What was your plan when you got pregnant? Were you broke then too? Were you still broke when you had your second, third, fourth child? How were you going to pay for that? You should have listened to your paid, elected officials Obama and Pelosi who are trying to abort as many black babies as humanly possible. They call it "pro-choice" and it makes it so you don't have as many black babies to feed. This is where tax money goes, to pay for black abortions. So you need to stop posting on web sites, turn off your computer, and go get a job to pay for your unmarried sexual escapades.

DWhite you are a low life for saying that I am married to my kids father and without wic for our kids its hard government takes out a lot of taxes on our paychecks just to cut out programs we need even if the dads pay child support its still rough. How is it that the government has money to try and make cities look better but don't have the money to keep open programs for moms all across the US the can help the Spanish people when they brought them over gave them a house a car and a job than gave them their green cards. Yup I went there you'll should worry about we the people and stop taking our money for yourselves and for the celebs they.make a lot of money why not take from them cut down on that too. We the people has taxes getting taken for what, to have football, NBA, baseball, soccer, hockey and and other sport. We bust our ass standing on our feet for 8-16 hours a day so you'll can still our money the medicare tax is dum due to it doesn't pay anyone's hospital bill or dr bills point is the government would manage if they stop taking the funds and getting rich off our taxes the pull from us.
