Hours after President Obama said he would support a recommendation to ban assault style rifle sales in America, FOX23's Adam Paluka set out to discover how hard it would be to get his hands on one of those "AR-15" style guns the president would like to see banned.
After calling several local stores, RJ's Gun Sales in Broken Arrow agreed to walk Adam through the process with FOX23's camera rolling.
After selecting an "AR-15" style gun, filling out paperwork, and handing over his Oklahoma Driver's License, Michelle Murry, who owns RJ's called an FBI clearinghouse.
"They're looking into your background to see who you are, are who are who you say you are," she explained.
Within minutes, he was told that he could purchase the gun legally if he could pay the more than $1,500 asking price.
Gun stores are not the only place where guns are for sale. There are several online marketplaces such as Armslist. That site is a virtual classified section for all things gun, and has many guns listed for sale in the Tulsa area. On that site, he found several guns for sale that he could pick up from the seller, and those sellers would not need to ask for information about who Adam is because right now, licensed brokers are the only sellers required to do background checks.
That is another thing President Obama would like to change. He is in favor of requiring background checks as a part of all gun sales, no matter the seller.
