On Wednesday, the Boy Scouts of America allowed openly gay scouts in the organization for the time. The national council voted in May to allow the change.
As of Jan. 1, no youth may be denied membership in the group based only on sexual orientation or preference. The organization is maintaining its ban on gay adult leaders.
The controversial decision led some members to form a new organization called Life Trail USA. It's nearly identical to BSA, except it excludes gay members.
