FOX23 has learned Roscoe Turner, a former Tulsa City councilor, has died from a heart attack.
District 9 Councilor GT Bynum told FOX23 around 8:45 Tuesday night about the passing of his colleague Turner.
Turner had a heart attack Tuesday morning and died around 7 p.m. Roscoe Turner graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and served as a District Three city councilor off and on for more than eight years, starting in 1998.
Turner was 81 years old.
FOX23 reached out to Mayor Dewey Bartlett for a statement, he responded with:
"Former Tulsa City Councilor Roscoe Turner was very passionate about representing his community and was certainly not a quitter. Winning his council seat many times, the former councilor was straight forward and vocal about his opinions and his love of his community and city was very obvious."
Mike Neal, president and CEO of the Tulsa Regional Chamber also released a statement:
"Former Councilor Turner was a devoted public servant. His dedication to fostering positive change throughout Tulsa will be remembered by the citizens of this region. I will certainly miss his passionate spirit."
Funeral services are planned for Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 403 South Cincinnati Avenue.
