A fundraiser and raffle was held in North Tulsa on Sunday in an effort to raise money to buy a handicapped accessible van for a local child.
"Wheels for Jaiden" was hosted for the family of 6-year-old Jaiden Alex. The little boy's mother, Elvira Bernal, told FOX23 that it has been a long road for the family because five years ago their world was turned upside down.
"A week before Jaiden's first birthday an artery ruptured in his brain, which caused tremendous damage to him," said Elvira.
The family is now faced with the challenge of purchasing a handicap accessible van to safely transport Jaiden to and from doctor's appointments.
Elvira told FOX23 that they are trying to raise approximately $20,000 to purchase a used van. Members of the community gathered on Sunday to try to help meet the need.
Blanco Reanno told FOX23 that she felt compelled to help the family.
"I've met this little boy and he is so sweet," said Reanno, "At the end of the day we just want to be able to make sure that he can get to his doctor's appointments safely."
