Family and friends of the late 39-year-old Darrell Abadie celebrated his life Sunday by raising money for the three children he left behind.  It was held at the Jack of Clubs bar on Garnett in Collinsville.

Abadie was killed by a hit-an-run-driver on January 15, 2012.  His body was found in a ditch near 126th Street and Garnett that morning.

“Knowing this was the last place he was at, it's kind of bitter sweet,” said Abadie’s younger sister Louise Quin.  “It's sweet because all his friends are here to help support his children, and the bitter part is he was taken too soon from us.”

Quin lost her best friend four years ago.  It was an experience she never wanted to go through again.

“I thought that was the worst pain I ever felt in my life and then they told me it was definitely him, I lost it,” said Quin.

Her mother's strength is pulling her through the pain.

“I have my faith in God,” said Abadie’s mother, Frances Boren.

Food for the fundraiser was donated by a local Sonic restaurant. Many friends bid at a silent auction that was also held at the bar.  If you want to donate go to this fundraising site.
