The reaction from people on base is absolute shock. They are stunned that someone in uniform would shoot fellow soldiers. People with Tulsa connections got in touch with FOX23, including Lisa Hawkins, a Fort Hood resident who called FOX23 Thursday.
"When you hear sirens going off at Fort Hood, you know that it's something major, because they don't go off for just no reason," Hawkins said.
Hawkins grew up on Fort Hood. She just drove in Thursday to visit relatives who work on base. A little after 1 o'clock in the afternoon, her trip became hectic.
"The base sirens went off, they started having announcements for everyone to go to their homes stay in the building. Stay away from windows and doors they locked down all the schools within pretty much 50 miles of Fort Hood," Hawkins said. The base was off lockdown as of late Thursday night.
Social networking sites, including Facebook and Twitter, have been really busy. Most people are offering their thoughts and prayers to wounded soldiers and their family members. The Army says it has received a flood of social media support.
