There's another candidate for state superintendent of public instruction: Freda Deskin announced her candidacy Monday morning at the Greenwood Cultural Center.
Deskin is a Democrat with more than 40 years of education experience.
"I think it's going to take the realization of people that our schools are in bad shape, that our teachers are leaving, and the bottom line is that it affects our children. We have to fund education," said Deskin.
Former Oklahoma first lady Kim Henry is serving as her campaign chair. The current superintendent, Janet Baressi, has already announced her intention to run for re-election.
