A high school softball coach is charged with second degree rape and sexual battery.
FOX23 confirmed Tyler Patterson was a high school teacher and coach at Westville High School.
Westville police officers told FOX23 the month-long investigation was launched after a complaint by a minor. Police felt there was enough evidence to arrest Patterson, who was a softball coach here at the high school.
In a town of 2,000 people who live here say it's very shocking to hear the allegations against Patterson.
"Enough evidence was compiled to believe a crime was committed," said an undercover police officer.
The undercover detective couldn't show his face on camera, but did say Patterson is working with police.
FOX23 got ahold of the probable cause affidavit, which alleges Patterson and the teenage girl had sex multiple times and exchanged inappropriate pictures for a few months.
The court documents said it started with a kiss on the baseball field, which is school property.
The affidavit also says 27-year-old Patterson admitted to the allegations.
"He has been cooperative," said the detective.
FOX23 went to the high school to talk with Superintendent Terry Heustis, who wouldn't talk on camera or comment about specifics of the case, but did say Patterson had been a coach and teacher for more than two years and resigned Sept.12.Sept. 12.
