A former Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Director pleaded not guilty to charges she misused school funds.

Stephanie Spring appeared in federal court on Tuesday afternoon. Spring has been at the center of a federal investigation since March of 2012. She resigned her position two months before the FBI joined the investigation.

Spring is charged with misusing $5,000.

Back in November of 2011, the Tulsa Public School’s Athletic Department was investigated for possibly violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

Spring left her position as athletic director when she resigned last January. Then two months later, the FBI began looking into possible embezzlement and misuse of funds within the TPS athletic department.

Now that she has pled not guilty the judge ordered her to stay in the area and be on best behavior. If she violates these terms, she could be held in contempt of court and go to jail.

Her next court date will be scheduled for late March or early April. Spring started in the district in 1990, she was named Athletic Director in 1997.
