The Tulsa Police Department’s Financial Crime Unit is working to combat an alarming rise of mail fraud in the east Tulsa area.

TPD Officer Jillian Roberson told FOX23 that detectives have seen a trend regarding mail theft from unsecured mailboxes in business complexes in east Tulsa.

Personal information that is enclosed in the mail can be jeopardized if it falls into the wrong hands.

“That type of fraud activity is just devastating to an individual’s financial situation,” said Officer Roberson.

Roberson told FOX23 that the Tulsa Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit will hand deliver mail fraud prevention letters to area businesses in an effort to bring awareness about the threat of mail theft.
