Runners and walkers gathered in downtown Tulsa Saturday morning to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

"I’m just thankful and blessed that I'm here,” said Patricia Kimbrough.

Kimbrough is a five year survivor of breast cancer. She’s put together teams for the race for the last two years.

"I am with the Soulful Survivors of Tulsa,” said Kimbrough.

Before signing up, Sean Blanton didn't know anyone who'd suffered from breast cancer. He didn't understand the pink beads, ribbons and t-shirts, but now it all makes sense.

"I think it's a great way to show that they're strong and see everybody that wants to support them at the same time. I think that's just great,” said Blanton.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure raises money and awareness. It also celebrates breast cancer survivors.

"It can be beat,” said Kimbrough.

And it honors those who have lost their battle.

"It just amazes me every year that I come,” said Kimbrough.

The finish line hasn't been reached, but a cure could be one step closer.

Last year, Komen received $950,000. 25 cents of every dollar raised goes to national cancer research.
