A family is grieving after a fire took the life of a grandfather in Berryhill.

FOX23 learned that 84-year old Paul Milford Haws died in the fire.

Haws’ family talked to FOX23 about her father and the fire that happened Thursday morning.

Brenda Haws said she left to pick up her daughter from the mechanic and came home to a fire.

She saw smoke and flames coming from the house Brenda Haws shared with her father.

“I just, that’s the only thought I kept in my head, was he’s with mom again and they’re happy,” she said.

Brenda Haws said her parents were married more than 50 years, her mother was love of his life, and they were very happy together.

"Every morning we’d sit and he d drink his coffee and id read my paper and we’d have this discussion about mom every morning," she said.

Tulsa firefighters and Berryhill firefighters put out the fire.

Haws told FOX23 she’s lived with her dad for the past year and half, taking care of him as he beat cancer and battled other health problems.

But he was still a man and very much alive and still cared about people and friends.

The family said the house was destroyed, and the Tulsa Fire Department said no nearby homes were damaged.

“He was an awesome man, I mean he’s done everything from dig pools to dig ditches to build home to racing cars and building guitars,” she said.

He was a cancer survivor, a father and a grandfather, "He used to sit me on his lap and play a song on his guitar for me,” said Brenda Haws.

Haws also found her computer that firefighters had put out the window while fighting the fire.  She said her father wanted her to use the computer to focus on her education and graduate.

Berryhill firefighters said the investigation is still ongoing and a cause has not been released.
