Victims and survivors of violent crime are invited to place an ornament on a Christmas tree and light a candle in honor of a lost loved one.
Ornaments will be hung and a candlelight service held December 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Buddy LaFortune Community Center, 5202 S. Hudson Ave. in Tulsa.
“We gather at this time of year to honor victims of violent crime and support their survivors,” said District Attorney Tim Harris. “The Christmas holidays bring joy to many, but for those who have lost a loved one or survived the trauma of violent crime, this season can be especially difficult,” Harris said. “It is our hope that this ceremony to honor victims and confirm that we have not forgotten their loss will be one small step on the path to help families heal,” Harris said.
The trees will be on display at the community center throughout the holidays. Those who are unable to attend may mail an ornament to be placed on the tree. Ornaments from previous years will also be displayed on the trees. After the holidays, ornaments will be stored until next season.
Mail ornaments to Susan Witt, District Attorney’s Office, 500 S. Denver Ave., Tulsa OK 74103.
