FOX23 aired a story that proved to be very popular with our viewers just a few days before Christmas.
Ethan, a child with cerebral palsy, had his specialized bike stolen from his front yard.
“I don't care who wanted it, I should have it,” he told FOX23 at the time.
Generous FOX23 viewers who watched Ethan’s story pulled together enough money to buy the child a new bike valued at $1,200.
“I'm really excited,” he said.
On Friday, six other kids got to feel just like he did.
“I am getting a tricycle,” Christiana, a seven-year-old who got one of the bikes, said.
Christina is disabled, and this trike is her equalizer. When she's on it, she's just like all the other kids.
“I would like to move forwards better, because the more I keep practicing the better I will get,” she said.
Sometimes it can take months or years for a child with a disability like Christina to get their specialized bike. They go on a waiting list, but because of FOX23 viewers and the story about Ethan's bike, donations poured in to TherapyTime where children get the bikes.
Now Christina is getting her specialized bike much earlier than she thought.
“That's the great thing about living in the state Oklahoma. Several people come forward to donated money, and we ended up with somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,000,” Kent Clingenpeel, National President of AMBUCS, told FOX23.
TherapyTime says now there are just two kids on the waiting list.
“We just have so many cases where we've put these kids on their bikes and it's helped them out so much with their disabilities,” Clingenpeel said.
Don’t take his word for it.
“What the trikes help you help you with is to move your legs,” Christina said.
The parents of the children were moved beyond words.
“Thank you, thank you for everything you have done,” Elbia Roman said.
