An investigation by FOX23’s DC bureau found the U.S. Education Department handed out $1 million in bonuses to its top executives over recent months.

The bonuses were awarded at the same time teaching jobs have been lost throughout the country and at the same time as a series of struggles at public schools across the country.

FOX23 found in some cases, highly-placed federal administrators pocketed $35,000 in salary bonuses in one year, that’s more than many starting teachers earn as an annual salary.

After digging up the details, FOX23’s Scott MacFarlane started asking the U.S Department of Education questions.

Their response coming up on FOX23 News at 9.

These teachers defiantly do not deserve any bonuses. Oklahoma's test scores are horribly low

How were the bonuses earned if at all? Seems everybody knows we're in a pinch except for the ones [upper management] telling us we're in a pinch.
